The Sportsman’s Inn

Situated close to the head of the dale and enjoying some of the finest views in Dentdale, The Sportsman’s is an unspoilt example of the traditional English country inn.
The building is steeped in history dating back over 350 years. From the drovers taking livestock to the nearby market towns and navvies working on the Settle Carlisle railway line to present-day tourists, this 17th-century Grade II listed building continues its long tradition of meeting the needs of those who enter.
The bar stocks a range of hand-pulled cask-conditioned ales chosen from the ever increasing number of micro-breweries in and around the local area. With meat from an award-winning butcher, fresh vegetables and salad from the local greengrocer and free range eggs from a nearby farm, the aim is to serve wholesome food locally sourced and freshly prepared.
Accommodation is available year round at this tranquil location, in double or twin-bedded rooms with private facilities.

Coronavirus news (updated 2nd July 2020)

“Having reviewed the Government guidelines in relation to the reopening of the hospitality sector we are sorry to announce that The Sportsman’s Inn will remain closed. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks and when we are satisfied that it is both safe and viable to re-open we will. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and for continuing to support your local by using  our takeaway and grocery ordering service, which in turn helps our local suppliers. We will keep you informed of any changes.”
