Jackie and Adrian Winfield have taken over at the Meadowside Café in what Adrian describes as a dream in an area that they have already fallen in love with.
Both have worked in catering for over 30 years in various positions, Adrian in kitchen and development roles and Jackie focussing on front of house.
Adrian explains how they ended up at the Meadowside in Dent. “Buying our own place has always been our dream and we have been waiting for the right time. When I got made redundant in May we decided that if we were ever going to do it, this now would be the right period in our lives to do so.”
After looking at numerous places they came across Meadowside and Dent and, “Immediately fell in love with the area and felt the café had the right feel about it to make it the place we envisaged.”
They are very keen on supporting the local trades and see provenance as almost as important as what to put on the menu. The drinks menu now has only spirits made in the Yorkshire Dales and they have found a local micro-brewery who make their cider. They are about to introduce a lager brewed in Kirby Lonsdale and will be selling only Dentdale Brewery ales.
Adrian adds, “Food wise we only use local meats, fruit and veg from the area and apart from Wensleydale we are starting to look for other local cheeses that can feature on the menu too.”
The Meadowside now opens from 9am until 4pm five days a week. They take a well-earned rest on Wednesdays and reopen on Thursdays between 6pm and 9pm for their Tapas Evenings.
The Winfields have also just introduced a new logo (currently on the menus) which will also appear on new signage in the near future as well as redesigning the website.
Jackie and Adrian have also been busy updating their self-catering studio, the Old Sunday School, to give it a more luxurious feel.
