Getting to Dentdale by bus

Dent will no longer have a Friday bus service to and from Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen, as well as losing an early Saturday morning service to Sedbergh, Oxenholme Station and Kendal.
Western Dales Bus, a volunteer-run service, have suffered a decline in passengers travelling to and from Dent since the pandemic. Although there was an expected seasonal increase in numbers to and from Dent over the summer, this was largely down to visitors rather than residents.
Jock Cairns, a director at Western Dales Bus said, “We cannot afford to run empty buses without potentially affecting all of the services we offer. The rise in costs have had a large impact and, as a result we must remove some of these less popular runs this coming winter to reduce our costs.”
From 5th December, they will be making the following changes:
Saturday: S1 Kendal Shuttle. This service will start at 08:35 at Maryfell, and will not come to Dent before doing so as at present. Other journeys to and from Dent on Saturday will remain unchanged.
Friday: S4 Kirby Stephen Connect. This service will not come to Dent at all, but will run between Sedbergh and Brough only.
