Dent School has once again received a Good rating from OFSTED following an inspection in mid-November. However, the inspector has commented that there have been notable improvements since the last inspection in 2014, “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. Based on the evidence gathered during this short inspection, I am of the opinion that the school has demonstrated strong practice and marked improvement in specific areas. This may indicate that the school has improved significantly overall.”
The report notes that the parents and carers spoken to during the inspection were overwhelmingly positive about the school. All parents would recommend the school to others. Many commented that, even though it is a tiny rural school, it reaches far and wide with the opportunities provided for the children. Parents of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) spoke positively of the individualised care and support given to their children.
In setting out the next steps for the school the inspector highlighted the need to continue to develop the teaching of subject-specific knowledge and skills in history and geography so that it is of the same high quality as in other curriculum subjects.
