River Dee Walks - these are part of the DALES WAY.
Church Bridge is located on the edge of the village passing Dent
Stores on the right and the Church on the left heading towards
Hawes.

Walk 1: Church
Bridge to Barth Bridge.
(Downstream)
2 or 2.5
miles
Begin the walk by joining the Dales Way path on the Dent Village
side of the River Dee. There is an opening on the left
side of the bridge. Continue walking by the river to Barth
Bridge
Turn right at Barth Bridge and right again into lane
and back to Church Bridge.

Gawthrop by gate on right of road. Through fields to
Gawthrop, then left back to Dent-Sedbergh road. |

Walk 2:
Church Bridge to Wood Bridge
4.5 miles
As above to
Barth Bridge - cross road and follow Ellers signpost - cross
river at Wood Bridge (Ellers) and turn right heading upstream to
'Monument' and Barth Bridge and return along river to Dent (4.5
miles).
Walk 3:
Church Bridge to Mill Bridge
(Upstream)
2.5 miles
Begin the walk by joining the Dales Way path on the Dent Village
side of the River Dee. There is an opening on the right
side of the bridge. Walk alongside River Dee and Deepdale Beck.
Re-trace path back from Mill Bridge for about 400 yds then turn
left over stile to Douby (Double) Croft and return along Keld
Beck to Church Bridge.

Walk 4:
Church Bridge - Mill Bridge - Tommy Bridge
(Upstream)
3.5 miles
Church Bridge To Mill Bridge as above. Follow path to right of
bridge through wood along Deepdale Beck. Cross bridge at
footbridge 0.75 miles and turn left, following river downstream
until path turns past new lambing sheds and joins a paved road.
Go left to Deepdale Chapel and left again to Mill Bridge back to
Dent. To Mill Bridge Cross bridge and take footpath over wall
stile to immediate left across fields to Tommy Bridge. Follow
Y.D.N.P. markers carefully. Cross River Dee at Tommy Bridge,
turn downstream along right bank until track curves right
(approx 0.75 miles) up to Dent-Cowgill road. Left back to Church
Bridge .
WALK 5
Flintergill and 'Occupation Road'
4.5 miles
Walk up Flintergill (from the Village Green) climbing steeply to
the 'Occupation Road' (green road)
At the top of Flintergill turn right until joining
Barbon-Gawthrop road. Turn right and descend to join Dent-Sedbergh
road . Turn right and return to Dent Village.
or
As above but turn left on reaching 'Occupation Road'
towards Whernside. Turn left and descend after about a mile down
next walled green lane (Nun House Outrake) to Deepdale. Turn
left to seat at next crossroads and left again back to Dent .
