Access Statement for Stone Close B&B, Dent, Cumbria

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home-based 3 bedroom B&B. The following statement is a summary of our provision.  If you have any specific questions, please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-arrival

·         Local transport is very limited: there is a bus to and from Sedbergh and Kendal on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  The bus stop is just 20 metres from our front door.

·         Dent railway station, on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line, is 4 miles from the village.  We can provide local taxi numbers.

·         Brochures and menus can be provided in large print by prior request

·         We have a page on the Dentdale website, with photographs of the front of the building and the downstairs guestroom with ensuite bathroom

Arrival and Car Parking facilities

·         We are on the main, cobbled street in the centre of the village.  Guests are able to unload or drop off right outside the front door, but cars cannot be parked in the street. The entrance to the village car park is about 50 yards away.

·         There is ample car parking in the village car park (free overnight),  with designated spaces for disabled drivers on a smooth surfaced area (the main area of the car park is very difficult to walk on for anyone with limited mobility or sensitive feet or for wheelchairs)

·         The entrance to the building is level with the cobbled street (there is no pavement).  There is a low (1 cm) threshold, and the door is 78 cm wide.

·         There is a light over the door, and the door is unlocked during the hours the Tea Room is open, at other times guests must ring the doorbell, which is at mid-height.

·         Guide dogs are welcome, and feeding and water bowls can be provided.

·         We can assist guests with luggage.

Main Entrance and Reception

·         Entrance door, 78 cm wide, leads straight  into the Tea Room, which has a flagstone floor.  Seating is available.

·         Guests are escorted to their room and facilities are explained.

·         The ground floor room is accessed by two steps down through a fire door.  This is hooked open during use.  There is a small well-lit lobby area before passing through to the bedroom.

·         The upstairs rooms are accessed by a carpeted staircase with round hand-rail.  After reaching a small landing, there are two further steps (one quite deep: 28 cm), with round handrail.

 

Breakfast/Tea Room

·         Breakfast is served in the Tea Room, or in the lobby area adjacent to the ground floor guest room if preferred by those guests with limited mobility.

·         Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request; chairs are straight backed without arms, and can be moved.

·         Tables 72 cm high, some round with centre leg and four feet,  some are on old cast iron sewing machine treadle bases, which have underspace of 63 cm. 

·         We do not play background music in any area of the B&B.  Music is played in the Tea Room during open hours (12 noon – 5.00 pm)

·         Breakfast is part buffet and part table service, but full table service can be provided on request.

·         Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and dairy free options are always available; any other dietary requirements can be catered for on request.

·         The B&B is non smoking throughout.

Laundry

·         Please ask if you require any items to be washed or dried.

Shop

·         There is a General Store and Post Office in the village, both stocking a wide variety of goods.  Please ask us if you have forgotten to bring something – we’ll be happy to help.

Bedrooms

·         All rooms: secure lockable doors, TV with remote control and teletext, radio, tea/coffee making facilities,  and bedside lamps or light.  Each room is furnished with one armchair and one wooden straight-backed chair; all furniture is moveable on request.  Beds are made up with organic cotton bedlinen and duvets, towelling bathrobes and slippers are provided.   Rooms are centrally heated with individual thermostat control on all radiators, in addition, hot water bottles are provided. 

·         Room 1: door width 89 cm.  Single beds 55 cm high, over 85 cm access to side of bed nearest to bathroom.  Fitted carpet is sisal, knotted pile, with woven rug in front of fireplace. 

·         Rooms 2 & 3: Door widths 77 cm and 89 cm.  Beds 55 cm high.  Fitted  short pile carpets, pedestal hand basin, 80 cm high, with traditional good grip tap fittings  and mirror, light and shaving socket above.

Bathroom, Shower-room and WC (en suite or shared)

·         Room 1: private walk-in wet room. Door width 77 cm.  The toilet is 40 cm high and has lever style flush handle.  Pedestal hand basin is 80 cm high and has long lever style tap fittings.  The floor is non-slip tiled and slopes very gently into the far corner to drain the shower.  A shower stool is provided.

·         Shared bathroom on 1st floor: access down 2 steps (one 28 cm deep) with hand rail, and one further step at entrance to bathroom. Door width 80cm, traditional latch and bolt fitted.  The bath is 50 cm high, it has grip handles on each side, traditional good grip tap fittings,  and non-slip surface at shower end.  Floor is non slip and there is good colour contrast of floor and mahogany bath panels and fittings.   Toilet is 40 cm high and has lever style flush handle.  Pedestal hand basin is 80 cm high and has traditional good grip tap fittings.

Grounds and Gardens

Additional information

·         Mobile phone reception is limited to Orange and “3”.  Guests are welcome to use our land line.

·         Smoke alarms are fitted in each room – we will also alert residents personally if evacuation is needed.

·         We can accept small items of food/medication for storage in our fridge or freezer by arrangement.

·         Guests are given a front door key as well as their room key on arrival, so they can come and go as they please.  Guests are requested to vacate their rooms by 10.00 am on the day of departure. 

 

Future Plans

·         We plan to have a mobile ramp available to enable wheelchair access direct from the street into the lobby area leading to Room 1.
