DENTDALE    In the Yorkshire Dales National Park

Dent Memorial Hall

The opening ceremony of The Haygarth Room see below

The main facility in Dent to hire for meetings, social events, fund raising, sales etc., is the suite of four rooms known as the Memorial Hall, dedicated to the Dent soldiers, who gave their lives in the two great conflicts of the twentieth century.

The main hall also provides the primary school assembly hall, so is only available for hire out of school hours. It can accommodate up to 200 people seated for a stage performance or 110 for an event where tables are set out.

The smaller meeting room, the Sedgwick Room, named after Adam Sedgwick, a native of the village and pioneering geologist, accommodates up to 30 and is used for coffee mornings, small lecture groups, committees etc.. It can be hired at any time. Concertina doors between the hall and Sedgwick Room allow the versatile double function of stage and auditorium with audience or dancers in the main hall.

A new annex to the Sedgwick Room, the Haygarth Room, named in memory of Hazel Haygarth, Dent resident and worker on behalf of the village for many years, is mostly used by the nursery group for pre-school education. It can be hired during school holidays, and exceptionally in term time by arrangement.

These three facilities have a common kitchen for catering. There is a good supply of tables and chairs, and crockery in the kitchen. There is a disabled toilet.

Any of these facilities can be booked for use by residents or non-residents, at the following hourly rates:

Main Hall £4
Sedgwick Room £2.50
Haygarth Room £2.50
Kitchen £2.00

If the Sedwick and Hargarth Rooms are hired together the charge for both is £4.00.

A supplementary charge of £15 is levied when a hirer operates a bar.

The hirer is responsible for obtaining the appropriate licence for alcoholic sales at any event.

The charges for any of the rooms includes supply of light and heat and the use of a p.a. system if required.

The venue is in the middle of the village immediately opposite the public car park.

Enquiries about booking should be made to the booking clerk, who can also supply a copy of the standard terms of hire upon request.

All Facilities can be hired from 8am to 1am. Those responsible for a letting with a late finish, are asked to remember, with being so central the hall is surrounded with residences, where people will be sleeping, and to disperse reasonably quietly.

There are plans to make additions to the complex to improve storage, toilets and kitchen.

The community is keen to encourage as much use of the Memorial Hall as possible and enquiries about hiring will be welcome.
