DENTDALE    In the Yorkshire Dales National Park

Dent Crafts Centre

  Proprietors:
Carrol & Joe Stephenson
Dentdale cradles the beautiful river Dee as it skips through a series of small waterfalls along the floor of its valley, perhaps one of the remotest dales, it is dotted with unexpected treasures, including the village of Dent itself. Cobbled streets run between colour washed stone cottages with low pitched roofs and black edged windows. Another unexpected treasure is the Dent Crafts Centre at Helmside, between Sedbergh and Dent.

The Gallery Converted from an eighteenth century Hay Barn creates a perfect setting for the display of watercolours, crafts and prints many by artists and crafts people of the Dales. Choose from an enticing collection including Nidderdale boxes, bird sculptures, walking sticks and wooden bowls. Handmade cards, silk flowers, wool tops, waistcoats and travel rugs in Yorkshire wool. Pottery and ceramics from local studios, original water- colours, prints, silver jewellery and creative metalwork and there is much more to see.

Tea Room Enjoy morning coffee, light lunch or afternoon tea, outside in the garden absorbing the beauty of the Dale, or inside by the fire in a delightful room adorned with tools of yesteryear. Home-baked cakes and cookies, teas and fresh ground coffee are a popular treat. Filled baps and homemade wholesome soups satisfy the hearty appetite. Then there is the delicious ice cream, made in the Dales of course.

Buzzard's Cottage Situated in the heart of beautiful Dentdale and within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Buzzard's Cottage forms part of the Dent Crafts Centre - originally a traditional eighteenth century hay barn which was converted in the late 1970's. Sitting beneath Helm Knott and its circling buzzards, the cottage enjoys splendid views of the surrounding sheep-grazed countryside and the enchanting Dentdale hills. The cottage interior is attractively furnished with a country charm and the old world atmosphere has been retained with its thick stone walls and spiral staircase. There are two en-suite bedrooms, a ground floor double with shower room and an upstairs twin with bathroom, sleeping up to four people. The cottage is centrally heated and bed linen is supplied. Breakfast and packed lunches can be provided if pre-arranged. The dining kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven, four ring hob, refrigerator, freezer, microwave oven and dishwasher. For your evening's relaxation, the lounge area has a television and video, and a selection of books and games.
