DENTDALE    In the Yorkshire Dales National Park

Books by Dentdale author David Boulton

Dales Historical Monographs

Dentdale has a fascinating history, from its origins as a Celtic kingdom in the 7th century, its settlement by Norsemen in the 10th, and its incorporation into Norman England in the 12th. The oldest families in the dale date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The men of Dent played a leading part in the 16th century "Pilgrimage of Grace" and in the origins of Quakerism a hundred years later. The dale was described as a "terrestrial paradise" in the 18th century, and in the 19th one of its sons became the father of modern geology.

So there's quite a story to tell, and Dales Historical Monographs (DHM), based at Hobsons Farm, Cowgill, at the head of the dale, began producing books and booklets in 1984 on different aspects of its history. These publications are mainly the work of David and Anthea Boulton, writers and broadcasters, who have been researching the dale's history for nearly twenty years.

Here is a list of DHM booklets and books.
